About Us - School Profile
Karratha Primary School is proud of its tradition of meeting the educational needs of Karratha students for forty years through a strong focus on maintaining academic, social and sporting excellence. The original Karratha Primary School was the first primary school in Karratha. Building of the school commenced in 1970 and opened in 1971 as Karratha Junior High School.
The school was originally built by Hamersley Iron Pty Ltd in conjunction with the Education Department to provide the newly established town with education facilities for the increasing number of families moving into the area. During 2009 and 2010, construction of a new school commenced. Although not completed for the beginning of the 2011 school year, we moved into the buildings that were ready. This, in turn, allowed demolition of the old school and the construction of the playing fields.
These were completed in July 2011 and this saw our new school fully in use for the first time. Karratha Primary School is committed to the core values of Learning, Excellence, Equity and Care. The school offers a comprehensive range of learning activities. The fundamental purpose of programs undertaken at Karratha Primary School is to provide structure around which students may build knowledge, understanding and values.
The School Council, the Parent and Citizens Association and Aboriginal Education Committees are all involved in the development of plans. Karratha Primary School is committed to furthering the educational needs of all its students for the future. I commend the school to you and, as stated elsewhere, encourage your input. We will only achieve our goal of making Karratha Primary School a relevant and dynamic school in its own context if you tell us how we are going.
